Gabbana and her sibling, Dolce, were dumped at the hospital next door, I'm sure with the intention that they would come to the shelter.
Gabbana is a very smart girl who would open her kennel gate and greet us upon arrival until we finally learned OUR lesson that we needed to put a clip on her gate.
She moved into a kennel with Pecos Bill and they got along great. Fortunately, Gabbana was chosen to go to a foster home where she could get a break from the shelter and some training. Here are some comments from her foster home:
Just sending a note to let you know she is doing great. She and Sophie are best buddies.
I took Gabby to her fist obedience class last night. She got to watch the advanced class, then got thrown into week 2 of basic obedience. She put those other dogs to shame! Not bad for only learning sit that morning.
I really think that she would excel at agility, or even make a good therapy dog with some more training. She is quickly warming up to people. She even lets the neighbors pet her and love her. I'm sure that by next Monday when she has school again that she'll be the unofficial greeter of Cumberland K9 academy. (Could you give them a shout out on Facebook, they're giving us a break on her cost of training.)
She has no problems with any other dogs she's been around. I do notice her herding Sophie around the "boundaries" of the yard. Guess she doesn't want Sophie to get a shock! She hasn't figured out we only have one shock collar and it's on her.
She'd do well with children over about 8.
She is rough and tumble, which is a trade mark of her breed, she and Sophie love to wrestle and play tag.
Still waiting for the house training to really "click" with her. But she is doing much better.
She loves that bigger crate. Crate training is coming along very well. She never barks while crated, but will scratch at the metal door when/if she needs to potty in the night. We had a small breakthrough the other day. She went potty on the leash!!! Guess she really is getting comfy with us.
If you would like to meet Gabby, please contact us so we can make arrangements.
Be sure to look at her video with the cats.
