About Ty Cobb-sponsored
Status: Adopted!
Species: Dog
February 27th, 2009 was the first day of my new life. That was the day that the volunteers at Grayson County Humane Society found me tied to the gate of the shelter (get it? Tie/Ty Cobb). I was in pretty rough shape with skin issues when I arrived, but those have been taken care of and my hair has grown back in and I feel good and I look good. I know I look good because I hear the volunteers all say what a handsome boy I am. I also hear them say that my chances of getting out are slim, because I’m a big, black dog and I don’t show well at the shelter. There’s not much I can do about being a big, black dog, but I’m working really hard not to be so scared and bark at everyone who walks by.
Can I share a secret with you? I’m not mean at all, I’m really a good boy. It’s just that it is so scary here. My first response is to bark to try to scare you, when in reality I’m the one who’s scared. Well, like I said I’m trying very hard not to bark. I don’t want anyone to be scared because of me. All I truly want is for someone to love on me and talk softly to me and bring me a treat or two (or maybe even three). When someone comes to the kennel door and shares some soft talk and rubs my head and gives me a treat I turn into a big ol’ mush.
I share my kennel with Kloee. She and I get along good. She’s another black dog who needs a home. I’ve been here a really long time now and all I really want is to go home with someone who will love me and share their life and their treats with me.
I’m about two-years-old and a very smart boy - something I know is true because I hear it from the volunteers all the time. They say that I would do anything for my person - that if the right person came along to train me and work with me that the sky is the limit for what I would do for them.
OBSERVATIONS FROM A SHELTER VISITOR: Ty Cobb is a great dog. He comes to the front of the kennel and barks and tries to be intimidating, but in reality he is just scared. I have gone in the kennel with him and all he wants is to be loved and petted and held. He will give you the most wonderful kisses and doesn’t want you to leave (but seems to understand when you do). After he and I got to know each other he never barked if I walked by, in fact, even if he had been sleeping, he would get up with his tail wagging and come to the front of the kennel to get some love. If I had been able to bring him back home with me I would have. He’s a big boy and very handsome. I wish someone would take the time to get to know Ty Cobb. I know you’ll find the big lover boy mush dog that I did. He’s a dog that will be loyal, loving and someone’s best friend. Another friend of Ty Cobb has sponsored him, so he is free to an approved rescue.
