Update, July 16, 2009: A local volunteer has agreed to take Becca to her home and work with her. Becca has come a long way, but she needs more and we're hoping this opportunity to live with a family will bolster her confidence even more. She also went to the vet's office for a microchip (just in case) and the report was that she handled the encounter well even though she showed all her shyness with them.  Everyone, let's root for Becca!!

Becca arrived at the shelter in February of 2009 with 2 small pups who have since gone to rescue. She did not appear to be the mother since they were still quite young and she showed no sign of having had puppies recently. She was supposedly found at a church across the street from our shelter. The poor sweet girl was so very afraid and shy when she came in that she would just hide behind her doghouse. We moved her inside so she could see us more and so we could talk to her more and work on her trust. Finally we put her in a kennel with an altered male who has worked on giving her confidence. After a couple of weeks, she decided she would go out of her kennel to the field to run. The leash was still a bit of an issue, but she got much better. We discovered that she loves all the dogs who are put in the field with her and she is happy and very playful with them.
We don't know what happened to Becca before she was brought to the shelter - either she was treated very badly or never socialized or both. It is so sad. Becca has NEVER shown any aggression or fear biting, but she is still so very scared. She needs to get out of the shelter and into a home that has the time to work with her to overcome her fear. She needs someone to help her learn to trust and to build her confidence.

We have no doubt that, with the right person, Becca will make a wonderful dog and companion. She is a very sweet and beautiful dog.

Our hope is that someone will take a chance on Becca, get her into a home environment and work with her. Once she gains some confidence and trust we believe that there will be no stopping Becca!
